Sony Makes it Easy Reprogram
your AIBO
It will soon be a lot easier
for AIBO ERS-210 and ERS-220 fans to do some serious
programming and reprogramming of their AIBO robots.
Sony's Entertainment Robot America is making is making
its OPEN-R® software development kit (SDK) available
to programmers in the U.S. via the Internet starting
on June 2.
"The OPEN-R software development
kit will empower academic institutions and programming
hobbyists with the tools they need to expand the AIBO
Entertainment Robot platform," said Victor Matsuda,
ERA's vice president. The SDK is different than the
R-Code script that was created for AIBO Master Studio.
Because its a low level API you can do a lot more
with OPEN-R.
The kit has been designed for C++ programmers.
It includes the API and several sample programs. With
the OPEN-R and the GNU development tools, programmers
will be able to control their robot's basic behaviors.
"Now programmers will be able to create new ways
to enjoy and be entertained by their Entertainment Robots,"
Matsuda added.
The OPEN-R SDK and the GNU development
tools will be available for free download for registered
members at www.abio.com/openr.
Currently a FAQ for the kit is available at the site.
